what was your "back burner?"
by stillin inwhen i was studying in the truth book i laid aside quite a few questions, feeling that i was learning something important, and that those "nagging questions" would be answered in due course.
most of those questions have gone unanswered because i was led along, like a stupid pig with a ring in his nose, by other pseudo-questions of, really, non-importance.
i've had problems with conforming, if that is the word, with "correct speak" in the organization, and it has been apparant to most of the people i've known over the years.

for me a big issue on the back burner (but that eventually got the ball rolling) was the idea that all non-jws would be destroyed, but particularly in conjunction with the fact that i was feeling that nobody actually truely chose to reject jehovah. i was always somehow able to see things from the householder's perspective, and i thought turning down a magazine about poverty or whatever from a teenager at your door because you're trying to sleep in, does in NO WAY amount to the same thing as rejecting Jehovah as the supreme ruler of the universe. yet that is what they say "we give everyone a fair chance by going to their doors.. when Armageddon comes they'll cry out 'We should have listened!!'"
add to that the fact that people from the Middle East, Asia, etc that don't already have a christian background are tremendously less inclined to become witnesses because they don't have the bible as common ground, and i felt that god was damn prejudiced.

More on Saturday's drama: Endo-symbiotic theory mentioned not once but twice
by sir82 ini don't want to give a full synopsis of saturday's drama, for fear of inducing stupor among this thread's readers, but.... .
the drama deals with a jw family with 3 kids, 2 of whom are in various stages of rebellion against all things jw.. the older brother is one of the "rebels", while the younger brother is a thoroughly annoying piece of brown-nosing crapola, completely buying into the jw mindset.. anyways, the younger brother is asking the older brother about why he doesn't want to attend the family study any more.. the older kid's rambling answer touches on something along the lines of "i'm learning things in school about how life really came here.
it's not as simple as you think!".

yes! i totally noticed that during the drama as well! my first reaction was to think "how strange that they would mention that so precisely, now people will research more about it!" but then i remembered... witnesses do not do research!!! two minutes into the next talk they wouldn't even remember the word "endo-symbiotic" anymore, if they even thought about it at all.
also i think, as some posters have already commented, that it's to give a sense of "oh we already learned about that" if ever it comes up.
also, if a young j-dub would start mentioning such topics, they could refer to that drama and caution him that he's falling for the same traps as "the young brother in the drama"

I hate JW jargon!!! (Alternatives please!)
by VampireDCLXV inall of us who have any ties to the jws know that they have their own vernacular, their own slang.
sure, there are formal titles that we can't really get away from: pioneer, ministerial servant, elder, ______ overseer, governing body, the (watchtower) society, etc.
but there are plenty of other bits of parlance they use that i can do without.... for example:.

oh i agree with SO many posted here already! i can never get myself to call it "the truth" again.. it just souds TOO wrong! also, who ever actually considers a "priviledge" to be a Priviledge?? their vocab is completely saturated with heavily skewed expressions that only support the brainwashing.
the only one i wanted to add to the list is their specific use of appropriate/inappropriate. it gets used arbitrarily concerning anything the WTS is presumed to approve/disapprove of, into the most insignificant details.

Hi, Newbie Here
by Iseenow inwell i have been lurking for the past couple of weeks and have finally decided to create an account.
just wanted to introduce myself and relate my life story in the borg, specifically from the past few weeks- which i think has been a lot easier than many on the board.
anyway, my mum began to study when i was 10 (2005) and since then has been babtized; she strongly believes it is the truth.

funny story, what a coincidence!
that 1984 wt cover should be photocopied 1000 times and left under the windshield wiper of every car at the DC!

i don't think dropping a bomb during the part is the way to go. you would just make them think "apostates are everywhere, gotta stay alert!" AND you would ruin the progress of your fade so far, which seems to be going alright, as you say you're skipping half the meetings now and your wife is somewhat ok with that.
also, when is your SAD? if it's still several months ahead, you could agree to do it (to not cause a stir), and if they notice your continued low meeting attendance and general slacking, they would quite likely find a replacement while there is still time.
on the other hand, if it's coming up soon, then you should probably just do it. is it just one of those 2 minute interviews? if so, i disagree with the other poster who said that it will delay your fade by 9 months. those little interviews get forgotten 2 weeks after, for the moment everyone will think you're doing just fine, and then you calmly continue your gradual and discrete fade.
i think that's what i would do in your situation. but it's up to you. and how hypocritical you would feel about it. could you maybe just talk about how good your parents were, just their qualities as parents, and leave the religion a little out of it?
